I should note that I am not local to AZ and this was my first time here. This road connects you to 5 different campsites or as other reviewers have described - parking lots. I setup at the Nolan camp. I am super grateful I set up earlier in the day and got a magnificent location because at night, tons and tons of vans were arriving late and circling looking for space. I had an amazing view from my car that I was camping in. I did have to take a little stroll to the nearest porta-potty. Not very clean but I’ve been in worse. The campsite wasn’t completely quiet at night which doesn’t bother me personally but maybe to some others it does. I know this new dispersed camping thing for Sedona is new and quite challenging from what it sounds like but I was able to work with it just fine and had an amazing time with breathtaking views. No campfires allowed. Leave no trace and be respectful. I saw people had dogs and cats on leashes tied up in their area. I think if you’re a van lifer, you just need to be considerate about the generator noise. All in all this was my favorite dispersed camping spot in Sedona.

We loved it! It was amazing winter primitive camping in the Sonoran desert; 2 days & 2 nights near beautiful Red Rocks! Great sunsets, rocks turn so red when the sun is on them. Pack out what you pack in. Near so many sights to see and trails to hike.

Took this route as part of Outlaw Trail. Stunning views, with some higher speeds. The trail gets technical half way through. 4x4 high clearance recommended. Alot of OHV's on the 2nd half of the trail. You can't beat the views though.

They have miles and miles of disperse camping (no bathrooms). If you don't find a spot in one site just keep moving to the next you'll eventually find one. The roads are really rocky though but a really peaceful place to camp. We stayed in a rooftop tent, it was a perfect place to see the stars at night.

I’m an AZ local and the dispersed camping used to be amazing. Now it’s anything but dispersed. We are tent and van campers and all “3” designated camping areas are overrun with obnoxious RV’s with their generators. You can no longer enjoy the peace and quiet of nature or a camp fire. This is pathetic alternative and ruins it for locals who live by leave no trace principles.

Want to feel what it's like to be in a homeless camp? Feel like it's absolutely pointless to have a 4x4 camping rig? Feel like you're being wronged by the government!?

This is not dispersed camping out here. It's a few designated parking lots and nothing more. This entire area has been completely shut down to actual dispersed camping. What remains is a joke and is legitimately an insulting shut down of public lands.

The vast majority of the campsites have been closed off, and as of this week the whole road is closed because of “dangerous driving conditions” on the forest road. I camped in the Nolan loop a few days ago and came back today to find the whole road blocked. It’s some of the best camping in Arizona, if they let you get back there. Really disappointed. Clearly the state doesn’t want to spend the money to hire enough rangers to upkeep the area.
