It was neat, but definitely musty and hot in some areas. It was also super long and some places are not accessible with a walker or a wheelchair

Beautiful houses meticulously designed and extremely advanced for their time

Interesting location, the Burnham Block homes were affordable housing for working class people meant to compete with Sears Catalog houses. The “American System” featured factory built parts that were then assembled on site to reduce cost and decrease construction time. Only six of a planned 25 homes were built when the local developer backed out of the project. After being mostly forgotten and neglected non-profit groups began purchasing and restoring the houses.

For any FLW fan this is a must see. Five classic Frank Lloyd Wright homes, all lined up on one city block. Three designs; two homes one story unique designs and three same design, two story homes. All unmistakable FLW.

A one-of-a-kind cluster of five homes, representing three designs, from Frank Lloyd Wright's first affordable home project, The American System Built homes. Had it not been for World War I, more of Milwaukee might have looked like this. Go to the Saturday morning tours if you can, and you'll get great information plus a peek inside one of the duplex units and the B1 model.

A great stop on the FLW trail through Wisconsin. His 800 sq ft design is very quaint and represents Wrights timeless style. If you are planning a trip on the trail, make sure to coordinate with SC Johnson and Wingspread tours- stay in the area one night and then head over to Spring Green or Chicago! The Milwaukee homes are a great historical site at any time of the year!
